The effects of PLNs have the ability to influence your personal and professional learning. One advantage is that these social networking tools support and facilitate the learning process in a personalized approach. This type of collaborating provides different concepts and resources that you may not have otherwise discovered. There are countless ways to utilize your own circle of contacts and resources by collaborating and networking with your peers. Blogs, bookmarks, podcasts, and wikis are just a few examples of the vast technological avenues that are available to educators.
I believe in the whole concept that the first couple of chapters express;
I feel that the following concepts described in the first couple of chapters express the summary of my own beliefs regarding this educational concept:
“Schools have been
working hard at making our kids learned because in the past, it was hard for
them to do that without the teachers and resources that schools offered. Not so today.
In the 21st century, students inhabit a world in which we
have the ability to truly make them learners who are able to create and share
and participate in these online spaces in ways that will allow them to take
advantage of whatever opportunities currently exist and the unimaginable ones
that lie just around the corner. To do
that we adults in the room need to be learners in those contexts as well.” (Richardson & Mancabelli, 2011, p. 20)

Christine, I found the first chapters very motivating. One of the aspects I have enjoyed most about pursuing the MET degree is being able to learn from such a diverse group of creative people. I am a firm believer in you never stop learning. In my field as a library media specialist I have to be cognizant of the constant changes in technology. I truly enjoy the challenge of matching curriculum with the right technology tool.
ReplyDeletePersonal/Professional learning networks is the best way to stay current and continue to learn. I took away from the text readings that we have to be willing to adapt frequently and distinguish the trends to what really is beneficial to student learning. One important lesson for us all is how to navigate and organize all the multiple sources of information. Sometimes it can be very overwhelming. I feel going forward that we need to model for students how to manage all the access around them.
Christine-
ReplyDeleteI too feel that personal learning networks are crucial in today's society. I found myself fully engrossed with what chapter 1 and 2 had to say. I can look back at my teaching career to a few short years ago and see that PLNs were definitely not as prevalent as they are now. The district I teach in gives us the opportunity to collaborate with not only our current grade level, but also each and every teacher that teaches that grade within our district. To be able to collaborate district wide is such an added benefit! I came across an article on Mind Shift that gave great insight to some great PLNs for educators and a few tips as to how to create your own PLN. I’m excited to hopefully be an approved member of these PLNs such as The Educator's PLN and Classroom 2.0 in the near future.
